Suzuki Kōdō (Suzuki Kōji) was born on January 11, 1907 in Kanagawa Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Torii Komudō and Araki Kodō III and started teaching in 1925. He belonged to the Dōsō-kai and was the head of the Kochiku-kai. His long career as a performer and teacher spanned more than 50 years.
