Satō Hōdō (Satō Gorō) was born October 30, 1910 in Niigata Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Igarashi Edō and Ogata Chikurei. He started teaching in 1946 and was the head of the Tōhō-kai. His shakuhachi career spanned five decades.
