Born February 6, 1916 in Tokyo, Hori Shōkei (Hori Tokiko) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Koshino Eishō I and Nakada Hiroyuki. She started teaching in 1932. She was active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years and was a counselor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
