Kobayashi Reiko (Kobayashi Rei) was born in Tokyo, November 21, 1915. She studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Katō Jūko and received her Shihan (masters license) in 1933. With more than 50 years as a performer and teacher, she was head of the Matsuo-kai, and advisor to both the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai and Ikuta-kai.
