Hasegawa Chieko was born May 24, 1928 in Tokyo. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Furuya Tomizō and Furuya Yasue, earning her teaching credentials in 1955. She graduated from the 4th class of the NHK Hōgaku Ikusei-kai and belonged to the Hōyū-kai.
