Jin Ray carries on the tradition of his grandfather Jin Nyodo, who compiled classical honkyoku, the roots of shakuhachi music. He studied shakuhachi under his father, Jin Nyoshō, as well as Aoki Reibo II, Kawase Junsuke III, Yamamoto Hōzan I, and Tokumaru Jūmei. He actively performs with various artists from different genres in Japan as well as abroad. He has completed the main program at the Research Center for Contemporary Japanese Music and a Master's Program in shakuhachi at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He currently is an Assistant Professor of Education and Research. He has also served as a director of the Kinko-ryū Kyōkai and as planning committee chairman of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
