Born February 19, 1922 in Osaka Prefecture, Uemura Ginrei (Uemura Fumio) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Nakagawa Ginrei (of the Ōyabu Shūrei lineage). He started teaching in 1957 and was Vice-president of the Kinko-ryū Ginyū-kai.
