Born May 6, 1923 in Tokyo, Ogita Shōdō (Ogita Akira) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Isezawa Seidō and Ōta Ryōdō (Kaneyasu Tōdō lineage). He started teaching in 1970. Belongs to the Nagoya branch of the Nihon Chikudō Gakkan.
