Nagatomi Yūzan (Nagatomi Hitoshi) was born March 10th, 1913 in Oita Prefecture. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Sakai Ruizan and started teaching in 1944. He was a member of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gaku-kai Kumamoto Prefecture Branch, the Kumamoto Japanese Music Association, and was the head of the Chikuyukai.
