Born August 15, 1904, Nakamura Hōdō (Nakamura Tanizō) was president of the Hōyū-kai, a counselor of the Japan Sankyoku Association, councilor of the Kinko-ryū Association, and a director of the Mitama Sankyoku Association. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Aoki Reibo I and started teaching in 1931. He was a shakuhachi maker for more than 50 years.
