Negishi Shūsei (Negishi Takeo) was born on May 11, 1899 in Saitama Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Yoshida Seifū and started teaching in 1937. During his 50 years in shakuhachi he belonged to the Seifū-kai and Bifū-kai and was awarded the Saitama Prefecture Classical Performing Arts Appreciation Society Award.
