Murakami Chikuyū (Murakami Daimatsu) was born April 20, 1909 in Tokyo. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kawase Junsuke I. He received his Shihan (masters / teaching license) in 1942 and began his teaching career. He was the head of the Saishō-kai and the Setagaya Sankyoku Kyokai. He also belonged to the Sankyoku Wakaba-kai. His career spanned almost 50 years.
