Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, November 6, 1937, Tanii Sumiko (Tanii Sumiko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio, Miyagi Kiyoko, Miyagi Kazue, Matsuo Keiko, Yuize Shin’ichi, and Mori Yūji. She also was part of the NHK Technician Development workshops and received her teaching license in 1956. She was a member of the Miyagi-kai and head of the Tama-no-ha-kai.
