Shimada Itoko

Shimada Itoko was born in Niigata Prefecture, February 21, 1920. She studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Kurabe Haruko (Kyushu Jiuta Sasao Takenoto lineage), earning her Shihan (masters license) in 1950. A member of the Sōmei Ongaku-kai, she was an active performer and teacher for more than 40 years.
