Takizawa Yuriko (Shima Yuri) was born in Niigata Prefecture, January 2, 1915. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio, Yamada-ryū under Hisamoto Genchi, as well as Saitō Shōsei. A member of the Japan Federation of the Blind, she graduated from the Japanese Music Department at the Zoshigaya Branch of Tokyo University of Education.
