Totoki Utakumi (Totoki Hisako) was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, September 30, 1919. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under her mother, Totoki Misa, and Ishikawa Masamitsu, earning her Shihan (teaching license) in 1944. Active as a performer and teacher for more than 40 years, she belonged to the Seiha Hōgaku-kai and Masamitsu-kai. She was also an instructor at the Prefectural Denshu-kai High School Koto Club.
