Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, November 12, 1883, Tomishige Tōshiō (Ikuta-ryū name - Yamada-ryū name: Nagasaki Toshii; birth name: Nagasaki Shigeko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Tomizaki Shunshō and Tomiyama Seikin I, and Yamada-ryū with Imai Keishō. She was active as a performer and teacher for more than 80 years.
