Born February 10, 1907 In Tokyo, Hirai Mikise (Hirai Kiyoko) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yamase Shōin II, earning her Shihan (teaching license) in 1941. She was a lecturer on koto music at Sumida High School, head of the Mikise Association, a director of the Seiin-kai, and a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
