Mitani Hideko was born February 8, 1890 in Tokyo. Studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Yamashita Kuniyoshi Kengyō and Kitani Toshie. She started teaching in 1908. During a career spanning more than 60 years, she received the Yamanashi Nichi Shimbun Art Award in 1960, the Japanese Sankyoku Association's Senior Citizens' Award in 1968, and was a longtime member of the Hatsugoi-kai.
