Yazawa Tōyō (Yazawa Tokuko) was born July 28, 1912 in Tochigi Prefecture. She studied under Nakayama Shōtō (Hagioka lineage) of the Yamada-ryū and Fujimoto Yasuko (Jiuta) of the Ikuta-ryū. She began teaching in 1952 and was the head of Hakuyō-kai. She was an active performer and teacher for more than 40 years.
