Born October 30, 1940 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Yamamoto Akiko studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Suda Hisako (Hisamoto Genchi lineage). She received teacher certification in 1968 and belonged to the Gakusō-kai.
