Active as a performer, teacher, and composer for more than 70 years, Murata Shōsen (Murata Haruko) was born February 13, 1898 in Niigata City. She studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Matsuda Shōsen I. She received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, 5th Class, in 1968 and was the chairperson of the Shōbu-kai.
