Born July 9, 1926 in Yamanashi Prefecture, Ishiyama Itsushō (Ishiyama Teruo) studied Itsudō-ha Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Itsuren. He started teaching in 1970 and belonged to the Shakuhachi Itsuren-kai.
