Sakuta Shōdō (Sakuta Tetsuya) was born February 20, 1912 in Hiroshima Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ishii Yōdō of the Mizuno-ha. He started teaching in 1964. During his 40+-year career, he also played koto and was a member of the Matsunomi-kai. He enjoyed performing at Wakana-kai gatherings.
