Born January 23, 1909 in Toyohashi City, Toyoda Gyōun (Toyota Seiji) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ōmura Eizō and Taguchi Gashō. He started teaching in 1940. He was a member of the Toyohashi branch of the Kōun-kai.
