Fujiwake Hōzan (Fujiwake Fujiyoshi) was born February 2, 1908 in Ehime Prefecture. He studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Ueda Chokudō. He began teaching in 1932. Over his almost 50-year career in the shakuhachi world, he was Shikoku District Ueda-ryū Shakuhachi-dō councilor, as well as the Ehime Sankyoku Association Deputy branch manager.
