Born in Kanazawa City. Graduated from Kanazawa University High School of Education and Tokyo Woman's Christian University, Department of History. Since childhood, studied Ikuta-ryū koto music under her mother, Tsuriya Utafusa I, and Nakajima Yasuko, second generation head of the Seiha Hōgaku-kai. Studied Japanese music history and ethnomusicology under Kishibe Shigeo, Kamisango Yūkō, and others.
