Born in Ishikawa Prefecture, December 27, 1929, Tsuriya Utafusa (Tsuriya Fusako) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakajima Utashito, Nakajima Yasuko, Yuize Shin’ichi, Hirai Kōzaburō, and Hisamoto Genchi. She received the Minister of Education Award at the Hōgaku Competition, the NHK Outstanding Arts Award, and the Ishikawa Prefectural Arts Festival Award, among many others. She belonged to the Seiha Hōgaku-kai and was an active performer, teacher, and recording artist for more than 60 years.
