Hanabusa Emiko (Osano Yasuko) was born May 30, 1904 in Muroran, Hokkaido. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio, earning her teaching license in 1923. She was selected for the Tokyo Shimbun Composition Competition and won first place. Active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years, she was the head of the Sōei-sha, a director of the Miyagi-kai, a councillor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyō-kai, and a councillor of the Ikuta-kai.
