Born March 24, 1911 in Saitama Prefecture, Yamashita Tokiyo (Kobayashi Kimi) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yamamuro Chiyoko. She started teaching in 1929. She was head of the Tokiwa-kai and also affiliated with theChiyomi-kai.
