Born April 27, 1922 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Honma Shōhō (Homma Hōjo) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Imai Keishō. He started teaching in 1946. He belonged to the Keifū-kai, was head of the Teikoku-kai, and was a counselor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
