Yamabiko

やまびこ

[Genre]Moderno
[Compuesto]Miyata Kōhachirō - Shakuhachi - 1981

Historia (Rodrigo Rodriguez):

Yamabiko, composed on April 7, 1981, is a duet practice piece for two Shakuhachi of the same size, using only the five open notes. The composition was inspired by the image of people working in the cedar forests of Hita City, Oita Prefecture. The title "Yamabiko" refers to the natural phenomenon of sound echoing back across a mountain valley, a sound believed to be the work of the mountain god or the spirits inhabiting the mountains. This echo was also thought to be the voice of tree spirits, known as "Kodama," meaning "Echo."
