初世 納富 寿童

Born 1895 in Saga Prefecture. Upon graduating Junior High School he moved to Tokyo to study shakuhachi with Araki Kodō III. Took the name Judō in 1916 and became an independent teacher and established the Judō-kai. Became a director of the Japan Sankyoku Association. Designated a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) in 1967, the first shakuhachi player to be so honored. He retired in 1973, passing on the title of Judō (II) to his surviving eldest son, Tetsuo, and taking the name Juō for himself. He passed away in 1975.
