Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, October 2, 1947, Nakajima Kakei (Nakajima Sumie) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Chikushi Katsuko, Kunishige Kaemi, Kunishige Katsumi, and Motegi Kaju. She graduated from the 15th class of the NHK Hōgaku Ikusei-kai. She belonged to the Chikushi-kai and Rokuka-kai.
