Born in Tokyo, August 3, 1927, Habara Takai (Habara Kazuko) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Imai Keishō and Itō Shōchō. She earned her teaching credentials in 1947. She was a councillor of the Honsan-kyoku Kyōkai, and a member of the Busei-kai.
