Born February 6, 1915 in Saga Prefecture, Matsunaga Seiyō (Matsunaga Hatsue) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Hiraoka Hagimizuka and Takao Shōyō. She started teaching in 1949 and belonged to the Shōyō-kai.
