Mori Tomie was born November 25, 1901 in Ehime Prefecture. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio and began teaching in 1934. During her more than 50-year career as a teacher and performer she received the Nayoro City Cultural Encouragement Award in 1965 and was a councillor of the Miyagi-kai and vice-director of its Hokkaido branch.
