Beppu Issei (Beppu Kazunao) was born October 1, 1930 in Kochi Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ōdate Hokusei. He began teaching in 1970. He was affiliated with Chikuyu-sha, Sosei-kai, and Hokusei-kai.
