Born in Oiso, September 9, 1922, Shima Chikano (Shima Kimiko) studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Nakanoshima Keiko. She started teaching in 1950. She was a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai and the Yamada-ryū Kyōkai, and president of the Tachibana-kai.
