A highly influential Jiuta player and composer during the early Edo period, Ichikawa Kengyō (Ichikawa Jōsei) studied koto under Yanagawa Kengyō (Asari Kengyō), earning the title of Kengyō in 1684. One of the most famous of his works is the Nagauta piece Sagoromo.
