Born on December 18, 1905 in Hyogo Prefecture, Fujimoto Kindō (Fujimoto Taiji) studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Takada Shūdō, Ueda Chokudō, and Ueda Hōdō. He started teaching in 1929. He was made Dai-Shihan in 1956. He belonged to the Hōyū-kai and had a career in shakuhachi that spanned more than 40 years.
