Hara Yoshimi (Hara Sonoko) was born March 10, 1914. She studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Murata Shōsen and Shimizu Yoshizumi. She graduated from the NHK Hōgaku Skills Training Workshop and began teaching in 1960. She was a member of the Society for the Study of Oriental Music, organized by Hoen-kai, and a member of Seishin-kai.
