Shimizu Chōzan (Shimizu Susumu) was born November 7, 1909 in Hokkaido. He studied Tozan-ryū under Nakamura Kozan. He started teaching in 1947. He was a member of the Hokkaido branch of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gaku-kai and was a member of the Jun-shihan (Associate Teacher) Examination Committee.
