Born in Tokyo in 1937, Jin Nyōsei studied shakuhachi under his father, Jin Nyodo from the age of 7. He earned his Shihan (masters license) in 1962. He graduated from Waseda University in 1966 and, upon his father's passing that same year, became the presiding officer of the Nyodo-kai. He served as an advisor to the Komusō Kenkyū-kai, a director of the Kinko-ryū Kyōkai, and a lecturer at the NHK Broadcasting Academy's National Open School.
